Peter's journey as an artist has not always included paint and canvas. Following his return to Victoria after art school and in large part the result of his family's requirements, he began a career in the graphic arts.
He worked hard, travelled extensively, and developed business and personal relationships that have influenced his life and art today. Along the way he had the opportunity to work with some incredibly talented designers, illustrators, writers and creative people that taught him the value of careful observation, particularly in our everyday surroundings that often seem so commonplace.
The principles of design and composition were the basis of his work for over 30 years, and instrumental in the development of his own artistic style. Now, as he continues to grow as an artist and spend more time directly in our natural world, Peter's finally able to utilize his acquired skills to render the unique beauty of nature in an imaginative and carefully studied manner. He looks forward everyday to where the journey will take him, but he's absolutely convinced the only way to travel is through hard work and dedication to his art...the rest will look after itself.
My goal with every painting is to capture the atmospheric mood of nature through a combination of reality and imagination. I focus on the texture and colour of things and how form, light and values influence the success of the finished piece. I believe my approach is representational, but it's evolving and will often include elements of exaggerated scale or perspective, or a shift in colour value to emphasize the character of the composition in a creative way.

I take great pride in producing artwork that records the natural world and I'm thankful to live in western Canada in an area that is so ripe with subject matter.
